Meliden is one of the ancient parishes of Flintshire. The parish originally comprised the townships of Meliden, Prestatyn and Nant; but Prestatyn and Nant were lost to the new parish of Prestatyn in 1860.
The earliest recorded reference is said to be in the "Lincoln Taxation" of 1291, and some parts of the church fabric are believed to date from the thirteenth century. The building was extensively restored in 1884.
The church was in Flintshire until 1974; and in Clwyd from 1974 until 1996.
It is now in "new" Denbighshire.

Seion Welsh Presbyterian Chapel
Erected in 1860 through the contributions of the people and miners of Meliden. Demolished in 1993. Housing flatlets were built in its place. The site is on the corner at the bottom of Ffordd Tanrallt.

In this old picture of Meliden we can see Seion Chapel (centre) from near the Miners Arms looking towards Graig Fawr. To the left is the mine waste (Smyddan) from Cae Llys. In the background, on the skyline a chimney at Talargoch can just about be made out.
